A new era in elite chess begins this November as Budapest hosts the official pilot of the FIDE-approved Total Chess World Championship Tour, a ground-breaking global championship created by Norway Chess that aims to redefine how the world's best players compete — and how fans experience the sport.

The Total Chess World Championship Tour is a groundbreaking world championship created by Norway Chess and approved by FIDE. For the first time, the world’s top players will compete across three chess disciplines to determine the combined champion.
The official pilot of the Total Chess World Championship Tour will take from 10–21 November 2026 at Anantara New York Palace Hotel in Budapest. The full tour will take place in 2027 and will unite Fast Classic, Rapid, and Blitz chess in a single competitive journey — spanning multiple cities and continents.
